What do we do?

Our Charter

To provide support to and links between all groups in the school community - parents, pupils and teachers - helping them to work together to provide the best possible education for our children.

What do we do?

The PA aims to foster co-operation and collaboration between

  • the Board of Management,
  • the teachers, and
  • the parents of the children attending the school.

We provide a forum to

  • Inform parents of developments in education and in the school
  • Support extra-curriculum activities
  • Aid the school in developing resources

The Parents' Association is not a forum for complaint against either an individual teacher or parent but it will pursue general matters and support parents with suggestions which will enhance the learning and growing experience of our children.

St Sylvester's PA has a strong tradition of combining

  • enjoyable fundraising activities
  • social opportunities for parents and school families to come together, and
  • meetings through which you can keep up to date with what is happening at your child's school and have the opportunity to contribute your ideas and opinions.

Meetings

Our meetings are held monthly, usually in the morning after school drop off.  Our AGM is held in September each year. Our meetings are very informal and relaxed and usually last for just over an hour.  At meetings we discuss  incidents that may require a review of school policy, ideas for fundraisers, proposed activities and developments within the school. The PA can make recommendations to and liaise with the Principal and Board of Management when needed. Our regular activities include the first class graduation, goody bags at Christmas time, visits from Santa and refreshments on information nights.

Our Contribution to the School

Our recent fund raising activities included a Casino Night (2008), Class Calender sales (annually), Class Christmas Cards (2008) and the annual Cake Sale. Funds raised have enabled us to buy or contribute to the:

  • New school pre-fabs
  • Toilets for Room 1 and Room 2, a new staffroom and Learning Support room
  • Development of the school garden
  • Weather station
  • Musical instruments
  • Addition to the school stage
  • Security cameras
  • Books
  • Toys
  • Some library furniture and other equipment
  • Chairs for the garden
  • Blinds for the new classrooms
  • DVD players
  • Painting the yard
  • New computers in the computer room
  • Visit from the School Farm

The Parents' Association really is all about your children and ensuring they have the best experience in school possible!
