Regular attendance at school is very important from the beginning. Please do not ring the office if your child is absent for a short period. On return to school after an absence the child must bring an explanatory note to the class teacher.
For the first two weeks of September, each Junior Infant class is supported by a teacher from the Special Education Team at arrival and dismissal times. and accompany the children to their numbered line in the dismissal area of the senior school yard. Please be extra vigilant when collecting your child at all times but particularly at this early stage. Inform the teacher that you are taking him/her each day.
For the first two weeks in September only, Junior Infants will be allowed home at 11.30 each day.
The main entrance to the school for children is on Yellow Walls Road - this is the only entrance to be used.
Fingal County Council employs a traffic-warden – on duty at the school gate morning and afternoon. Please help us to keep your children safe by reminding them regularly to obey the traffic warden at all times. Parents are not permitted to park outside the school gate or to drive into school grounds.
Parents should warn their children against delaying on the way home or going anywhere with strangers. Do talk to your children about Road Safety and Stay Safe Programme.
Parents are asked not to send children to school when sick or when taking antibiotics. Parents must make teachers aware of any physical disability or allergies which the child might have. Please check your child’s hair regularly for outbreaks of lice infestation. Remember, lice love clean hair that isn't tied up.
We have a Healthy Lunch Policy in our school which encourages children to bring Healthy Lunches into school Monday- Thursday. They may bring a very small treat in on Friday. Fizzy drinks, peanuts and Crisps are strictly forbidden and yoghurts and frubes are not permitted in Junior Infants as young children get very upset when they spill yoghurts/frubes down their jumpers.
The rules of the playground will be explained. Children are asked to show consideration for others when at play. They are encouraged to play with children from their own class. Our yard motto is use “kind hands, kind feet and kind voices”. We encourage children to share and to include those children who wish to join in their games.
Invitations and Christmas cards may not be distributed in school. At this age children feel excluded when not invited to a party or receive a card and can be upset in the class. We would appreciate your help and co-operation with this.
All classes are equiped with an Interactive White Board. The PA are currently fund raising to purchase iPads for the children.
The hall is well equipped with excellent resources to support five of the P.E strands, Athletics, Dance, Gymnastics, Adventure activities and Games.
The local GAA Club provides us with a football coach. He visits the school one morning a week, to coach the children in football skills.
We have an annual sports day. The Junior Infants sports day events take place on the school grounds and have fun activities such as musical cushions, parachute activities etc. The Senior Infants and First Class children go to the grounds of Malahide Castle for their sports day. A great day is had by all!
Our outdoor classroom is sponsored by the Parents Association. It provides an environmentally rich area for our pupils to explore nature. They regularly come out here on ‘mini-beast hunts’ using magnifying glasses and view finders. In the summer teachers bring their class to the outdoor classroom to read stories to them.
