Entry and Exit Guidelines during the New Build

Below is important information regarding the logistics of entering and exiting the school during the new build.  A copy of this note will also be emailed to each family in the school and placed on our school website www.stsylvestersinfantschool.com

The new build will commence in July.  There are a number of Health & Safety issues which must to be adhered to during the build.  We appreciate this may be a stressful time for some, but it will be worth it in the end.  Our main concern is caring for the four hundred and fifty children entering and exiting the school.

Entry/Exit:-

The Board of Management has designated THREE SEPARATE SCHOOL ENTRY/EXIT gates and has taken the following necessary steps to alleviate some of the expected congestion.

You may only use the entry/exit gate specific to your room number:-

èEntry/Exit 1: Graveyard Gate

Rooms 15, 16, 17 and 18 ONLY

  • There will be a new temporary pedestrian entrance alongside the graveyard

  • Children from Rooms 15, 16, 17 and 18 ONLY are permitted to use this entrance

  • Children will line up at the door at the back of their prefab

  • Children will enter and exit their classroom from the door at the back of their prefab

  • There will be no access to the Junior Yard from the Senior Yard

  • Scooters and bikes should be left on the grass behind Room 18

èEntry/Exit 2: Yellow Walls Road

Rooms 1, 2, 4 and 8 ONLY

  • Children in Rooms 1, 2, 4 and 8 ONLY may enter and exit the school via the small gate on Yellow Walls Road

  • Rooms 1 and 2 will line up outside the main school entrance at the window of their respective classrooms

  • Children in Rooms 4 & 8 will line up at the window of the secretary’s office

  • At collection time, children will be collected from the same area as above

  • Scooters and bikes should be left behind the palm tree at the main entrance

èEntry/Exit 3: Pedestrian Gate at Staff Car-Park

Rooms 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 & Hall ONLY

  • Children in Rooms 5, 6, 7, 9, 10 & the Hall will enter and exit the school via the pedestrian gate beside the staff car-park entrance

  • Children will line up on their respective class line in the Junior Infant yard

  • Children in the Hall will line up alongside Rooms 9 and 10

  • At collection time, children should be collected from the same area as above

  • Scooters and bikes should be left inside the children’s garden in the Junior Yard

Siblings:-

We understand that these three distinct and separate entrances will be challenging and present difficulties for parents who have more than one child in the school.  However, the Health and Safety of our children is our number one priority.

We suggest parents contact other parents from their child’s class and arrange shared drop-offs/collection of siblings.  Parents contact details are available from your child’s class rep.

It is important to note the following:-

  1. The Senior Yard will be out of bounds and surrounded by hoarding during the build

  2. It will not be possible to gain access from the Senior Yard to the Junior Yard and visa versa

  3. Parents and children must use the paths on the outside of the school railings to gain access to their designated Entry/Exit gates

  4. Children using the area to the front of the current main school entrance will not be permitted to cross the staff car-park to gain access to the Junior Yard.

For parents/children using the Entry/Exit 3, we suggest you avail of the free one hour car-parking in Bridgefield.

In order to minimise traffic congestion we also encourage walking, scooting, cycling etc.  However, the Board of Management cannot accept responsibility for loss of scooters, bikes etc.

Staggered Start:-

For Health & Safety reasons the Board of Management must implement a staggered start/finish as follows:

Week 1: 31st August - 4th September

9.15 – 1.20    Senior Infants

Week 2: 7th September onwards

8.50 – 1.25    Senior Infants
